This week tune in and I will have your chance to win tickets to the Evolution Extreme Action Sports Tour, May 8th at JPJ Arena. I recently had the chance to interview Josh Felix from the tour and judging by what he had to say, I think it is going to be a great show. If you want to catch some awesome BMX, Motocross action tune in this week from 10am-3pm for your chance to win. Here is a video from a recent stop on the Evolutions Extreme Action Sports Tour:
Just a heads up to everyone, I will be giving away lift tickets to Snowshoe all week long, so sign up here on the website. And coming up on Friday, I will give away the grand prize, a two night getaway to Snowshoe with free ski rentals from Freestyle! So, sign up if you want to go to Snowshoe for some skiing! Or with the all the snow we have gotten recently, you could probably just ski in your backyard. But Snowshoe would be better. And after being snowed in so much lately, I think everyone is eager to get out of the house. I know I am!
It’s that time of year again. Time for the Toy Lift! This is one of my favorite things that we are involved in all year long. It is always great to see our community pitch in to help some less fortunate kids. If you are not aware of what Toy Lift is, it is your chance to help some kids have a better Christmas. On Friday, December 4th, Hot 101.9 will be in the parking lot at Fashion Square mall all day until 8pm collecting new, unwrapped toys and books for kids right here in our community. Every year, I am amazed at the turnout. I thought last year with the economy the way it was, we would have a hard time collecting toys, but people came through in a big way. I hope the same is true this year, and I hope you can make it out to the Toy Lift on Friday, December 4th and make the holidays that much better for some kids in Charlottesville and Albermarle county.
Don’t forget about Hot’s Halloween party on Halloween night at 9pm at Wild Wing Cafe. Make sure you come out in your costume because we are going to have some great prizes!
We are also hosting a comedy show at Wild Wing on Wednesday Nov. 4th at 8pm so be sure to check it out. We welcome the nationally touring comedian, The Disgruntled Clown to the stage, for what should be a great night of comedy. It’s free to get in, and it is an R rated show. Hope to see you there!
I was reading through Facebook status updates when I got into work this morning, and I was kind of surprised to notice that a lot of people had posted something along the lines of “Kanye is such a *&@”! ” I can’t believe he did that to Taylor Swift”. How can you be surprised? That is what Kanye West does. That is like sticking your hand in a fire, and being surprised that the flames burnt you. You should have known not to stick your hand in the flames, just like MTV should know by now, if you invite Kanye to an awards show, he is going to burn someone too with his stupid and self-centered actions. And this time it was the most non-threatening and innocent of targets, Taylor Swift. The crowd booed in displeasure when Kanye took the mic from her and said Beyonce’s video was better. And rightfully so. Kanye embarrassed and humiliated a 19 year old woman, who by all accounts, is one of the nicest people in the music industry. Even when the camera panned out onto Beyonce, she looked shocked and extremely uncomfortable with what Kanye was saying. And he was paying her a compliment! It was like her uncle just told her that she was sexy. Sure that might be nice to hear, but when it comes from your drunk and creepy uncle, it’s makes you feel akward and dirty. Beyonce did come off looking like a class act though, when later in the evening, after winning an award herself, she invited Taylor to come back on the stage to have her moment. And it appeared that Taylor Swift did indeed enjoy her moment after winning her very first MTV Video Music Award.
After Kanye West sobered up, he offered an apology to MTV and said he will personally apologize to Taylor Swift as well. And I’m sure he will have his chances too. Both of them are talented artists who will probably cross paths at a music awards show again. And I hope that time, they both win some trophies. And I hope when Kanye accepts his, Taylor Swift is right there to grab the mic and say, Jay-Z was better.
According to the online security company McAfee, people who google Jessica Biel are more likely to end up encountering problems with spyware and computer viruses, than people who google other celebrities. In fact, 1 in 5 people who google her end up at a website that damage their computer.
In a related story, 5 out of 5 people who google Spencer Pratt are sad human beings.
I can’t wait for the Virginia football season to kick off here in Charlottesville next Saturday, the 5th, against William and Mary. Yes, the team hasn’t been that great the last couple of years, but here is hoping that this year is better. Who knows, with the new offense, maybe they will get more wins than last year when they got 5. And maybe Al Groh will smile more than he did last season when he smiled zero times. No one has ever seen Al Groh’s teeth. True story.
Join Hot 101.9 at The Wild Wing Cafe on Wednesday, August 5th for a great stand up comedy show. The show starts at 8pm and is absolutely free! We have a great lineup of comedians performing including the headliner Odyssey Michaels. Odyssey is not only a hilarious comedian, but a good friend of mine too. You may have seen him perform in Charlottesville before, if you have then you know what to expect! If not, come on out and check out the show. It’s great to have stand up comedy in our backyard, and we are happy to be a part of it. Hope to see you there on Wednesday!
There are some events in history that I would have loved to witness first hand. The signing of The Declaration Of Independence, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Miracle On Ice. And now, I can add one more to that list thanks to an e-mail I received from a friend of mine this morning telling me of a bizarre event she witnessed. Here is the e-mail I recieved:
I thought I should share this visual with you:
set-up: (at 8am this morning)
I was sitting outside Meineke waiting for my ride to pick me up…to the left of me was a Honda with darkly tinted windows BUMPING r&b music…
the music stops
out of the honda steps a middle-aged, bleached-blond guy with an orange sleeveless t-shirt (it was made that way, not cut-off sleeves), khaki shorts and brand new white tennis shoes with orange trim (to match his t-shirt)…AND a large cross tattooed on his arm
he was very polite, by the way; as he walked by me he said ‘good morning, how are you today?’ while carrying a starbucks ‘to-go’ cup
he walks straight in to the bay area (where they repair the cars) and starts doing push-ups in front of all the guys that work there.
that was it…very bizarre
I am currently searching Craiglist for a Delorean, some plutonium, and a flux capacitor so that I may travel back in time to witness this amazing event in person.
